1009–1012 — Job Change to Merchant

1009 = Prontera, 1010 = Geffen, 1011 = Morroc, 1012 = Byalan. Set when you talk to Mahnsoo again after the assignment. Completed when he promotes you.

1. Talk to Chief Mahnsoo in alberta_in (53, 43) and choose "I want to be a Merchant."
2. Pay 1,000 zeny now (job_merchant_q = 2) or 500 zeny now (job_merchant_q = 1) with the other 500 due after you pass.
3. Mahnsoo randomly assigns one of four destinations and one of two serial numbers for that destination.
4. Byalan also gives a Delivery Message for Blossom — hand it over with the package for extra rewards later.
5. Talk to Mahnsoo again if you forget the destination or serial; that is also when quest 1009–1012 is set.

1. Go to the storehouse on Mahnsoo's right and talk to Union Staff Kay (alberta_in 28, 29).
2. Choose "My Merchant License test.", then the destination, then type the serial number (0 cancels).
3. Correct destination + serial gives Merchant Box 1 or 2. A mismatch gives Merchant Box Etc — the customer will reject it.
4. job_merchant_q advances from 1→3 or 2→4 when you take the box. Guard it; losing it fails the test.

1. Take the box to the assigned NPC and let them check the serial.
2. A matching box is consumed and replaced with the matching Merchant Voucher (receipt). job_merchant_q advances to 5 or 6.
3. A wrong box is refused. Return to Kay if you need a replacement — he can reset you to pick up a new package if you still have the old one.
4. Byalan: if you still have the Delivery Message, Blossom takes it (quest_alb_01 = 1) and gives 3 Bananas.

1. Give the receipt to Kay. Missing receipt fails the test (job_merchant_q = 9) and you must ask Mahnsoo to reset.
2. On success Kay sets job_merchant_q to 7 (if you still owe 500 zeny) or 8 (fee already paid in full).
3. Return to Mahnsoo. Pay any remaining 500 zeny, then he changes your job to Merchant and completes quest 1009–1012.
4. If you delivered Mahnsoo's letter on the Byalan route, he adds 200 zeny.

Tell Kay both the destination and the exact serial Mahnsoo gave you. Each destination has two possible numbers.

Prontera — Kafra Blossom

Byalan Island — Kafra Blossom

Byalan only: 3 Bananas from Blossom when you hand over the Delivery Message, then 200 zeny from Mahnsoo after the job change.

• Losing the package or the receipt fails the test (job_merchant_q = 9). Talk to Mahnsoo to wipe the record and reapply.
• Wrong serial at Kay still gives a box — deliver it anyway and the customer will reject it. Go back to Kay for a replacement.
• job_merchant_q 1/3/5/7 means the remaining 500 zeny is still due; 2/4/6/8 means the fee is already paid in full.
• High Novice characters whose advanced job is Whitesmith or Creator skip the delivery test and change to High Merchant immediately if NV_BASIC is 9.
